Air Tightness

New commercial buildings have to comply with building regulations with regard to airtightness. New buildings are air tested to ensure that cold unwanted air does not enter the building, furthermore any air generated within the building whether heated or cooled costs money and it should be retained rather than escaping into the atmosphere..

Older commercial buildings built before these new regulations were brought in, are often very draughty and inefficient. Many are of a corrugated sheet construction and they have fillers at the eaves which fall out causing large gaps for air to move freely in and out of the building. These areas are also convenient places for vermin to enter or birds to nest.
