Domestic Roof Insulation

Your Home Roof Insulation Specialists

Are you looking to renovate and insulate your roof? Then we can help as we offer full home roof insulation and renovation services. Our roof insulation system not only stabilises and weather proofs the roof of your property, it also helps to dramatically reduce your home heating costs.

At Green Insulation UK we use spray foam insulation, which is becoming the insulation of choice for any modern home. This type of insulation can reduce heat loss by as much as 90% and keeps your home warm in the winter and cool in the summer. Figures from the Energy Saving Trust also show that high-performance insulation, such as our spray foam insulation, can save homeowners a significant outlay each year on energy bills.

If your home is more than thirty years old then it is likely that you will need to upgrade the insulation within your roof. The reason for this is because older insulation types do not have the same thermal properties as sprayed foam roof insulation, they have weaker insulating properties and become worn and compressed and often collect dust and debris. This means that they are far less efficient and are open to heat loss.

Green Insulation UK’s spray foam roof insulation is far more efficient than mineral wool insulation, blown fibre insulation or loose fill loft insulation. Furthermore, it bonds to the underside of the roof, which allows you to use your loft space for storage or occasional use because the floor joists are not overfilled with bulky insulation materials. The majority of homes in UK have at least 100mm of fibre loft insulation at ceiling level; by spraying our spray foam roof insulation at 100mm we can achieve a U value of 0.18w/m2/K. This is the best way to create what is known as a hybrid roof, and the 0.18 U value will comply with current Building Regulations.

We use BBA certified materials and when the foam is applied as detailed above it means that no additional ventilation is required, meaning that your loft is a warmer, less draughty space. Any water pipes and tanks will also be protected from freezing and, thus, the possibility of a burst is reduced.

Green Insulation UK’s industrial and domestic roof insulation is free from HCFC and CFC and it has a zero Ozone Depletion Potential (ODP). It is a two-component material, which is applied at a ratio of 1:1 and quickly cures to form a completely seamless layer, both insulating and air-sealing your roof. We only use material that meets with the Class 1 Surface Spread of Flame rating to British Standard BS 476 pt 7. There are many reasons for installing house roof insulation; it can be a really good way of saving money whilst improving the environment – a win-win.

How does Spray Foam Roof Insulation compare?

  • 60% more efficient than Polystyrene
  • 80% more efficient than Mineral wool
  • 100% more efficient than Cork
  • 110% more efficient than Sheep’s wool

In some cases air leakage through the roof can be a problem because you are spending money on generating warm or cold air only for it to pass through the roof into the atmosphere. Spray foam is extremely effective in sealing the roof and therefore, preventing air from escaping. Other forms of insulation such as insulating board are not able to provide such an air barrier without very labour intensive cutting, fitting and tape sealing.

Technical Data

  • The foam is formed utilising two parts a: isocyanate b: a resin. These two parts are transferred from their containers into a proportioning machine and they are heated to a low temperature 55℃ they are then delivered via heated hoses to the spray gun where they mix and form a liquid that then expands to 30 time its original volume to form a rigid foam in just a few seconds. It is totally cured within a few hours.
  • The foam is 90% closed cell, semi-rigid polyurethane foam which has excellent compressive strength
  • We only use materials, which are CFC and HCFC free, they have an ozone depletion potential (ODP) of zero.
  • Service temperature range of -15℃ to 70℃
  • We can comply with the Building Regulations. Approved Document L: Conservation of fuel and power in dwellings
  • It is important that we only use foam that meets with the Class1 spread of fire rating to BS476 pt7

Benefits of our domestic roof insulation:

Stabilises Your Roof

Following any necessary repair works to your roof tiles, the application of our seamless sprayed foam roof insulation system will stabilise and bond the tiles into position and protect your roof against ingress of wind driven rain, snow and dust. This makes your loft a far more useable, dry and warm space for additional living area.

Bonds To Any Surface

Our house roof insulation will bond directly to tiles or slates, breathable sarking felt and sarking boards, metal sheets, concrete and cement asbestos sheets. It is also very suitable for flat roof insulation.

Reduces Energy Costs

The Energy Saving Trust has confirmed that home insulation is one of the most effective ways to reduce your heating costs. Surveys and research has shown that bills can be reduced by many hundreds of pounds each year. The low cost of installation and the fact that spray foam roof insulation lasts for many years without degradation, means that you save money forever.

Home Comfort

Insulation is particularly effective at improving your homes room temperatures. Insulation such as spray foam can provide warm conditions in the winter and cool conditions during the summer. This is done through controlling your homes airflow. The leakage of air from your property and the ingress of air from outside can be a significant problem in maintaining a consistent temperature within your home. Up to 40% of the energy used to heat or cool homes disappears into the atmosphere because of poor control of airflow. Modern construction methods ensure that the majority of air generated within a building remains inside and therefore reduces wasted energy. By installing our spray foam roof insulation we can achieve the same results, at the same time as weather proofing and reducing a build up of moisture.

Reduces Carbon Emissions

Recent research shows that thermal insulation could help reduce carbon emissions and save up to 350 million tonnes in waste. This is because insulation reduces the amount of wasted energy in your home. Essentially poor or no insulation results in heat loss, which escapes in to the atmosphere.

Prevents Condensation Build Up

Condensation can be a significant problem within some homes and roof insulation can be used to solve the problem. Once installed foam roof insulation creates a barrier with a warm surface and the dew point is removed therefore, warm moist air will not condense and form surface condensation.

Makes Your Loft Space More Useable

Our roof insulation is installed at roof level rather than loft floor level therefore, there is no need for bulky mineral wool insulation or loft roll, which will prevent the installation of a loft floor. This means that your loft can be used for whatever you wish to do with it and it is no longer wasted space. We are often asked to provide and install insulation in loft conversions, which require Building Regulations to be met.

Reduces Noise Pollution

Closed cell roof insulation has good sound dampening properties and test have shown that 80mm of foam will have a similar sound reducing effect as double-glazing. Polyurethane foam roof insulation is a barrier to driving rain and snow, meaning that the insulation stays dry with no loss of thermal properties. Sprayed closed cell insulation will not absorb water and bonds directly to the substrate with no voids or joints for condensation or cold bridging. We only use material that meet with the Class 1 fire rating when tested to BS476 Part 7.
